Starting a house cleaning business is a great way to earn extra money and be your own boss. It is one of the easiest service businesses to start on a tight budget. You can make a decent amount of money with this low cost start up business. You can schedule your hours around your children;s schools schedule, or your work hours. Starting a house cleaning business or maid service you do not need a lot of money to get started. You will only need enough start up capital for licensing, marketing, and supplies. The cheapest way to market your cleaning business is fliers, you can do this by posting your flier on bulletin boards, laundry mats, and canvassing neighborhoods where you would like to work. You can print the fliers from your computer, to save money print them so you will have 2 or 4 fliers on a page , so you will get more filers for your money. Use bright colored papers when printing your fliers, so that they stand out. Make sure to put your contact information on your fliers. Ask friends or family if you could give them a free cleaning so that you can get some practice cleaning other peoples' homes, it is not the same when cleaning your own home, when cleaning a clients home you have to be very detailed, and you have to be very efficient because your time equals money, an you do not want to loose money starting out. You have to learn how to calculate your rates when starting out, figure out how much hourly you would like to charge then multiply that times the amount of hours you think it would take to clean the clients homes. You have to have a budget when starting your house cleaning business, below I will give you some ideas of what you will need to get going.

$50 Cleaning Supply Budget

To get you started until you build up some cash flow here are some supplies you will need to start your house cleaning business:

  • Microfiber Rags
  • 1 (1) Gallon bucket
  • Mop
  • Furniture Polish
  • Window Cleaner
  • All Purpose Cleaner
  • Bathroom Cleaner
  • Long Handled Duster
  • 4-5 Spray Bottles

Vacuum cleaner ( You can use your personal one until you can get one for the business)

$50 Marketing Budget

You can buy some cardstock to make fliers from your local office supply store, and a paper cutter to cut the fliers once you have printed them. You can Either print them from your home computer or take them to a office supply store and have them printed and cut. I Recommend you print at least 1000 and distribute them door to door to get your first customer. This should start generating some cash flow for you. The service industry is a fast growing business if you are looking for a home based business to get into, my suggestion would be start a house cleaning business.
